Poll: Would you sacrifice BEYONCÉ sales for a top ten hit?
View Poll Results: Would you sacrifice some sales from "BEYONCÉ" for a Top 10?

Honestly, I would. Not seeing Beyoncé in the Top 10 never really feels right.

Not a chance. "BEYONCÉ" is platinum and critically-acclaimed. Who cares about a Top 10?

This thread is a perfect example of what is wrong with music and why sales are plummeting... No one cares about albums

People want to either use streaming radio services that cater to individual tastes such as Pandora, or on-demand streaming services such as Spotify. The increased access to Bluetooth sound systems in cars is also cannibalizing terrestrial and satellite radio. Why listen to someone else's playlist when you can listen to your own, or one that has been curated specifically for you? Terrestrial and satellite radio will be a complete non-factor within 10 years.
Then what is the point of selling singles? Having a "receipt" to brag about on a forum? Who cares?
If money wasn't the point, music would be free.

What kind of ass backwards thinking? Of course not -- trading in album success for single success would be regression at this stage.
She has a good stable of hits under her belt -- Billboard's top female act of the 00s decade off the strength of her years of radio dominance and doesn't really need constant radio presence at this point. If the hits come, great; but her focus is building strong, cohesive albums and having the body of work appreciated in full. Which is what is happening.

Trade all this critical and commercial success for a top 10 single? She literally could call Maroon 5, Pitbull, Flo Rida, Dr Luke, Calvin Harris, Max Martin, Mike Will, etc. and guarantee herself a top 10 if that was her main objective.
I do think XO was made to be a huge multi-format hit though. We'll see after she performs it and it gets more airplay.

Another false statement. People remember the hits, not the album. Ask a random
citizen on the street, "What is the name of the album that 'Single Ladies'
or 'TiK ToK' came from?" You'll be met with blank stares.

I'm only asking for a source. I wasn't trying to be abrasive by saying '****'.

BEYONCÉ is a self-titled album, no one will forget the title.

I can't believe this.
It's definitely nothing to do with receipts or even charts.
Singles are just what is ultimately remembered about an artist. They are what stand the test of time. They keep an artist relevant in the future. They are part of musical HISTORY. They define an artist and their highest highs sonically. Hit singles are the fundamental representation of an artist and how their sound was loved by the masses - radio playing them means that not only a few million album buyers know the songs, but hundreds and hundreds of millions of people know every lyric. It's just an absolutely huge part of an artist's legacy.
Not that Beyonce wont have a great legacy anyway, and not that she doesnt already have some mega+memorable singles. But STILL. Let's not pretend you would be happy for her to never have a top 10 ever again.

People act like Beyoncé CAN'T get a top 10 hit, the thing is she DOESN'T want one.

People remember the songs from 4 and none of them were Top 10. I don't really see your point.

Precisely. Money is not the issue. Accessibility, being present
on radio -- this is the focal point. It goes over the heads of some.

Why would being present on radio matter when radio is going to be dead within 10 years?

Beyonce could have EASILY debuted at #1 with a new single this era if she had dropped it on iTunes, radio and YouTube EXACTLY how she dropped the album.
She chose the album instead...
Bookmark me, SHE WILL have a top 10 this era

That's the whole point of Beyoncé releasing an album first...
Thriller, Dark Side of the Moon, Rhythm Nation, Like a Prayer, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club, Blonde on Blonde, That's what she's trying to accomplish (not saying it's on that level), a memorable body of work. I think this album made more waves than a single would have. I'm pretty sure most people have heard about it at least. BEYONCÉ has a place in history now. We'll see what it does in the long run, but it's already made music history.
