There was no point to the BJ album. She should have just released a Piece of Me: Greatest Hits with 1 or 2 new songs to coincide with the show.
Funny how everyone wanted her to leave the overproduced/impersonal dance songs for a stripped back sound and she does it and it bombs terribly. She should obv. go back to the overproduced dance pop. It's what she's good for.
Everyone would be here if she really did go for a more stripped sound and made it good. The thing is, BJ is just a bad album, basically a bunch of #willpower and PRISM rejects.

MJ started flopping 1995 and NEVER recovered. That HIStory album/era was considered a huge mess and fail.
Whitney's last big album was The Bodyguard in 1993 (8 years after she started). She scored 1 more #1 after that era and never had a BIG album afterwards. MLIYL peaked at #13 in the US and sold 3.5 million in 1998/1999 when there were tons and tons of artists crossing 5-6 million and a handful doing 10+. JW bombed and that was that.

Rihanna's individual sales aren't the best but her collective totals are impressive. She has sold over 30 million albums and who knows many hundred+ million singles, and she just added a really big tour to her resume.
It IS impressive to be able to score huge hit after huge hit and sell 3-4 million albums on a yearly basis.
