He's has no promo, and they all managed to get to #1 same with the Journals album which 10 of the songs people have already bought which went to #1 too. One Direction has had endless amount of promo, all of their songs sound the same and they release an album every year in November of course their gonna have way more hype.
The reaches from the pressed in this thread the only people not wishing their faves could smash like this without promo are the Beyhive. The rest of you can stay furious.
These are truly the pits though. I understand he wants to ~get his fans used to the new sound~ but the new sound ain't working. R&B slow jams are not what his fanbase is into and he will slowly but surely lose them if he doesn't go back to pop.
Also, his voice is too whiny to pull off R&B.
How many 13 year old white girls can you think of that are into this type of thing?
I don't mind Rollercoaster, Backpack and Confident. Some are so dull. His slow jams just don't work.
I feel bad the GP isn't taking this seriously at all, musically and aesthetically. However, I agree that he needs to go back to the drawing board if he wants success outside of his base.

This costs $, and fans are the ones who are buying this. I don't see how that makes it any more for the fans than any other album release. Now if it was a free mixtape, sure. But it's not.

Releasing a song a week isn't the same as releasing singles. Ofc his label isn't going to let him release 16 songs for free when they know they can make money.
Still, I would have thought that releasing a song a week for 10 weeks without internal competition of the album being available at the same time would have yielded more than 3 T40s. I think most people did based on how big his sales have been in the past.
