Paige Elliot - 'Heaven/Hell'
Release Date: December 23, 2013
Genre: EDM, dance
Length: 79:47 (standard); 100:52 (deluxe)
Recorded: 2012-2013; Stockholm, Sweden; Nice, France; Bridgeport, SimNation
Label: Written Without Warrant
Paige Elliot's sophomore album released, only two months after her debut, due to what she described as a "struggle for control" with her label over which album to release. The second album, which reveals itself to be much more personal and in-depth than the club-ready 'Celebration', is much darker, artistically, while having a mostly EDM-filled sound. Juxtaposed angelic angels and demonic horns with red eyes, long white nails and nudity fill the album and its photos, displaying the meaning behind the title, 'Heaven/Hell', which Elliot revealed to reflect on the highs and lows of her life.
The album itself features a largely EDM production, featuring producers such as Swedish House Mafia, Avicii and Zedd, while also having electro and urban influences, such as the trap "Fire" produced by Baauer ("Harlem Shake") and Bangladesh to the electroshock "Bite Me" produced by Lazy Rich; both songs are considered disses towards Elliot's ex-husband David, who lost a court case against her on the accusations of abuse, emotional trauma and physical assault. Despite this production, the album reveals personal lyrics, and each song is considered either "Heaven" or "Hell", and where each song lands can only be determined by the lyrics.
The album's lead single, "Ecstasy", a "heaven" song produced by Swedish House Mafia ("Don't You Worry Child"), displays Elliot in a trippy, joyful state, drugged up and in absolute bliss. A similar song, "I Care", written about a man sympathetic and caring towards his current girlfriend, another "heaven" song, features writing credits from Elliot's current boyfriend, actor Matthew Hamming. On a darker side, the pseudo-dubstep ballad "Wrong Paradise" features a slow, bass-heavy production with stomping drums, a "Hell" song about finding love and joy in a place where you shouldn't. The standard album closes on the title track "Heaven/Hell", which, along with the title "Made of Stone", is considered a "neutral" track that shows traits of both Heaven and Hell, reflects on the entire album, with an ethereal and dark production courtesy of William Orbit, discussing topics from Paige's first kiss to her suicide attempts and age 13 to her marriage to the nights her husband abused her. It ends the standard album on a perfect note, haunting listeners and keeping the entire album's concept in their heads.
However, in shocking news, Paige Elliot revealed the album would have videos for each song, providing a full experience for the entire album. She also stated that, as a result of that, a separate version of the album will be uploaded to iTunes that is one long video and song, making each song flow into the next and the videos do the same. The album will feature an iTunes LP on iTunes, and the videos are said to be released later this week.

"Escape the King"
Opening the album with a "heaven" song, "Escape the King" describes someone escaping from a dominant, almost abusive lover, over a heavy, rumbling beat that fizzes, twists, dies and comes back constantly, stuttering due to David Guetta and roaring due to Michael Woods. It was a no-brainer that the song was about Paige Elliot's ex-husband, David Elliot, like several other songs on the album.
"I Care"
Another "heaven" song, "I Care" tells a story of a lonely girl meeting the man of her dreams, and her telling him all her troubles, fearing he'll reject her, only to find out he cares and understands. Avicii provides guitar-driven verses with a light, EDM chorus, similar to his song "Wake Me Up!"
"Ecstasy"
Yet another "heaven" song, "Ecstasy" describes life in bliss as a total high over a typical Swedish House Mafia beat, light and easy, yet still danceable, similar to their popular single "Don't You Worry Child".
"Rich Bitch"
The first "Hell" song on the album, "Rich Bitch" recalls Paige's song "Shame", describing people insulting her and her only hearing rumors about herself throughout the town. Real headlines from magazines about her divorce with David are read off in the beginning, and the entire song is bass-heavy with a moombahton-esque drum beat with a high-pitched melody in the chorus.
"Bite Me"
Another song about David, "Bite Me" is a "heaven" song, and a straight-up diss towards him from Paige, telling him to bite her, attack her or hit her again, almost a teasing dare, over an electro beat that shocks ans screams.
"Fire"
An urban standout on the EDM album, "Fire" is another "heaven" song and yet another tell-off towards David. Paige describes their troubles, claiming she's done with him and has finally taken care of her life and all her troubles. The beat is heavy, a typical trap song, with the occasional dancehall break between the choruses and verses.
"Spring Break (Part II)"
Picking up right where the original left off, it's another "heaven" song with a similar beat to the original song, with a heavier bass and more breakdowns. It describes young adults going insane and partying on spring break over a dubstep and drum & bass beat. However, instead of Justin Bieber, the continuation features Rob Swire, who also helped produce the song as a member of Knife Party.
"Hungover"
A typical Afrojack song, "Hungover" is a "Hell" song that describes coming down from a high, referencing "Spring Break". However, the chorus has dramatic vocals before a slurred, spoken hook like, "Ugh, man, I think I'm a big hungover..." before a high-pitched Afrojack beat.
"Wrong Paradise"
Another "Hell" song and the part where the album takes a negative turn, "Wrong Paradise" is a pseudo-dubstep song, with the occasional wub yet with stomping drums and light sounds, recalling Selena Gomez's "Stars Dance". The song describes finding happiness and pleasure in a place you shouldn't.
"Heartless"
The final tell-off towards David Elliot, "Heartless" is another "Hell" song with a bouncing beat and stomping, repetitive drums and the occasional treble sizzle, patronizing David and speaking down towards him for being a "Heartless, immature child".
"Not in Love"
Another "Hell" song, "Not in Love" features a majorly dubstep beat, with one small bar of light, electro synths, but mostly consisting of heavy, bassy instruments with stomping drums as Paige sings in a heavenly voice about realizing she's not in love with someone anymore.
"Made of Stone"
The first song on the album that isn't strictly "Heaven" or "Hell", "Made of Stone" describes Paige being jaded by her life experiences, and that she can no longer be hurt by any words or acts by anyone else over a danceable, heavy beat courtesy of Sandy Vee and NERVO.
"Gunshot"
Another "Hell" song, "Gunshot" features an almost atonal instrumental, mostly consiting of guitar twangs, clicks, knocks, bangs and almost-constant gunshots and clicks as Paige describes being shot down by a lover, sampling the classic song "Bang Bang" by Cher, also covered by Nancy Sinatra.
"Heaven/Hell"
The last neutral song on the album, and the longest song on it, as well, "Heaven/Hell" reflects on everything told in the album over a watery, etheral beat that constantly changes to fit each story. There are samples of yells, voices, conversations and countless other songs, with random changes and twists as the song tells Paige's entire life stories in constant changing melodies and instrumentals.
"Sick"
Another total dubstep song, "Sick" is a "Hell" song featuring vocals from Nero singer Alana as she and Paige describe being sick of love and life.
"Christof"
A "heaven" song, "Christof" doesn't ever say its name, and rather describes Paige being infatuated and in love with someone over a rolling, happy-go-lucky beat that's impossible not to be happy to.
"Witchcraft"
The final "Hell" song on the album, "Witchcraft" describes Paige comparing herself to a witch casting a spell on her lovers over a low, heavy, wobbling bassline, enchanting the listener like a witch's spell on its own.
"Marilyn Monroe"
A great closer to the album, "Marilyn Monroe" is a "heaven" song with a heavy, electroshock Zedd beat as Paige sings about being remembered as an icon, and ends the entire album on the note of a blissful suicide.
The album is available on iTunes and Amazon, and is also available at most physical retailers. Be sure to pick up a copy now!

CÉLINE & BARBARA: 2013 EMAs
*PLEASE READ IN FULL*
“We have the HOTTEST artist in Europe tonight with us, performing with a fellow vocal legend. Together, they have topped the Urban charts as well as become one of the most-talked about tracks of the year. And tonight, they are about to make history as they will perform TOGETHER for the FIRST TIME ever. Ladies and gentlemen, please stand up for Céline Dion and Barbara Streisand!”
A piano began to play some haunting, mysterious chords as fog exerted onto the stage floor. A huge, red velvet curtain had been hanging, covering the scene.
“It’s showtime!” a voice mesmerized into the crowd. It sounded like a 70s vocal contest host who had been introducing an act.
The curtain raised, as a huge puppet set-up was in tact. A giant rectangular board was shown, with strings from a mannequin being held. The strings led down lower, lower and lower until a figure was inside the set-up. Her body was bent down, as her hair covered everything except for her knees and all of the body below. A recording of 70s applause, from cartoon videos played while the human had began to contour their body up.
The person revealed themselves, except the light shining on them had blacked out, revealing the entire outfit except for their face. The person began to sing.
“She can go anywhere in the world… But she still works, work like a ratchet girl.”
The face was revealed — it was Céline Dion. The crowd roared completely as she stood still, like a statuette. Suddenly, a blur of noise began to play and a playback began over the speakers.
“Hello, my name is Céline Dion!”
“My name is Barbara Streisand!”
“And we are… The Ratchette Girls!”
The instrumental began to play, as Céline began to dance in a very robotic, puppet form with the strings over her. Some more dancers came out in the strings, with others on the top of the rectangular structure holding the strings. Céline started to sing the track as flashing lights and dancers performed choreography. Her vocals were more solid than ever before, power housing through the arena with every exquisite note and lyric. Then, when she hit the pre-chorus a projection of Paris showed inside the rectangular area of the puppet show.
“Paris, Bonjour! Amour! Sexe! Mode! Ratchet! Allez!”
A new breakdown of dance music began to play for a bit, as Céline’s body was getting shifted, with her hair flying all around and her stomping on so many places to the beat. Some glitter began to fall as the chorus kicked in. A huge power synth dragged the pre-chorus into the chorus as an explosion sounded before the instrumental continued. Céline’s huge, black jacket flew off her body. She was exposed — wearing a gold necklace, leather black skin-tight pants and a black shirt. She performed the puppet-esque choreography on point with her dancers. For the second verse, Barbara appeared.
“Bonjour 2013 European Music Awards! Ciao EMAs! Hei EMAs! Hallå EMAs! Are you ready?”
Barbara walked up on top of the rectangular set, taking the strings to Céline off from the mannequin’s hands and controlling Céline herself. She sang her ad-libs in the verse as Céline began to power through below with a higher pitched, yet raged tone. Barbara slayed up on top as she posed with the mannequin, and Céline worked on the bottom performing robotic choreography, similar to Beyoncé and Ciara. Suddenly silk drapes started to fall down from the top ceiling of the rectangle and Céline emerged into the pre-chorus where Amsertdam was showcased via projection.
“Hallo, Amsterdam! Passie! Brand! Ritme! Ratchet! Gaan!”
Another electronic breakdown appeared but this time more low-key and Europe-sounding. Barbara began to pull Céline’s strings, causing Céline to ascend to the top of the rectangle. While Céline was getting pulled up, she appeared to look a little pressed but continued to sing as Barbara had an evil grim on her face. The bridge began, as everyone exited the stage except for Céline and Barbara. They began to sing the bridge on top of the rectangular structure together, as a ton of lights flashed in the rectangular box and the word “RATCHETTE” blanked in different inverting colors.
Then, when Céline turned to face the crowd Barbara pulled a knife out of her costume.
“You mother****er!” she shouted.
“Holy ****!” Céline reacted.
Suddenly, Barbara exerted the knife toward Céline but Céline grabbed the knife forcing it away and fell off the platform. The music stopped and Barbara kept on shouting at Céline, then she lunged at Céline… but she missed. Céline stepped out of the way as Barbara almost threw herself off the nearly three-story structure. However, Céline kicked her off the rectangular structure and Barbara plummeted all the way down. All the lights stopped, as the audience was screaming in terror and they were stunned. Céline picked up a microphone.
“Well… we didn’t plan for it to get that ratchet. Oh ****... I’mma go now!"

ERIC SAADE DOES THE EMA'S
Eric Saade performed at the European Music Awards just now, giving an electrifying performance of four songs from his newly released album Exposé which is expected to pull some pretty big numbers since his single ‘Can’t Please Everybody’ debuted at #2 this week with over six hundred thousands copies sold. Saade was amongst numerous artists like Celina Dion who performed at the European Music Awards, both artists having the stand out performances of the night.
The performance started off with a screen flashing static on and off with clips of Eric and a female in black and white, touching on each other (both sweaty) as moans and heavy breathing filled over the speakers. The clips faded as they soon started flashing images of static, on and off. The instrumental of Midnight Love began as layers of the images of static would move from the ground up over and over. Eventually it began highlighting the figures of Saade and some dancers (both female and male). They started dancing and doing choreography to the uptempo instrumental, before the lights shined on Saade and he began singing the song. Female dancers touched on him and were on either side of him, as he smirked at them before they broke into another danced routine, Saade still giving good vocals despite them being a bit breathy. The bridge hit and the female dancers cleared the stage for Saade and the male dancers to hit an intense routine, that sent the crowd into a cheer. Soon the two male dancers left the stage, and a mic rose out from under the stage and that’s where Saade began singing Gave You Everything in a orchestral form. Two female dancers came out on stage and grinded on Saade as he was a bit intimate with them, giving exceptional vocals. The tempo changed as the violins soon turned into pure R&B and naughty beats as the arrangement of ‘All You Wanted’ began. Saade was alone on stage for this performance and served vocals, the Swedish pop star full of sweat as he sang the powerful midtempo. The bridge hit and the lights went dark as smoke filled the stage. The crowd went wild as the instrumental to Can’t Please Everybody hit and Saade appeared with some dancers to perform the song. The ending was massive as Saade ended the performance in a epic pose with women at his feet.

BARBARA STREISAND RUSHED TO HOSPITAL / IN COMA
After the tragedy last night at the European Music Awards, Barbara Streisand was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. In a potentially historical (not for this reason) performance of “Ratchette” with Céline Dion, Streisand ended up getting kicked off a three-story rectangular figure. Cameras from a few angles witnessed Streisand threaten Céline with a knife, however Dion’s credibility is very low. Previous accounts of Dion threatening to murder Streisand have been made and are still being debated. Streisand unfortunately, is currently in a coma. More updates on her health will follow.
