Sugababes were the ones who had multi-genre appeal. They did pop, R&B, dancepop, and even attempted to throw some hiphop into the mix, especially on their first and third album. Girls Aloud only progressed from pop to dance-pop: they hardly were diverse. Their music was absolutely brilliant but they were PUPPETS. Nothing more but the face of Xenomania and the shitload of business people trying to keep the last succesful British girlband alive. Sugababes actually tried to participate in the writing, production and marketing of their music.
The ironic thing here is that the Sugababes were ruined by the marketing machine behind them while Girls Aloud put a rather dissapointing end to their career mainly because of struggles within the group (at least that's my theory).
