No, Elvis did. I see swing and twist music as the first signs of pop music. The Beatles were just easy marketable plus they had guitars. Instead of playing slow like a country band (which were really hot at that time), they made it more fast like Elvis and so it began. Millions of fans and Beatles wannabe bands came. The only reason they were still relevant at the end of the 60s was because of their experimentation. They grew as artists, but compared to other bands like The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones or The Velvet Underground, they are really basic.
