Well COADF isn't Madge her magnum opus but that's besides the point. I thought of it more as a return to form of what people expected/wanted from her + massive sales.

Also the name helped like in a commercial sense it's cool but it set her up for drags in reviews

Does it suck that ARTPOP is tanking? Yeah. Do I think this is Gaga's curtain call? Not at all. If she truly wants to be a successful popstar (other than with singles since she's doing well in that department), she's gonna have to balance herself and try to find that medium where she can be both a visionary and a commercial pop star.

I just want to know what she's thinking. Does she legitimately not care about sales? Or is she crying in a corner right now? I want to support her in whatever way she wants her career to go but I can't tell if she wants to be a huge popstar or an avant-garde artist.

Regardless of the sales, I still love the album. It's just that we all know that she deserves better.

I wish she would realize that acoustic/organic sounds is what she's best at (Do What U Want, Yoü and I, Gypsy, Paper Gangsta, Speechless).

The next best thing would be electro and synth pop.

EDM is such a meh genre. I hope she goes for dream pop. That would be incredible.

So far this era is playing out like Madonna's Bedtime Stories. Moderate hit lead single, album opening with small #'s and continuing to drop from there. This was also the album after her polerizing Erotica era (BTW). It wasnt until the second single smashed that people started picking up the album.

DWUW is this eras last hope. Be glad Venus never saw the light of day as the second single. The era is not over just yet

This girl cares about sales. She wants to be a huge popstar. The disconnect from her music and her image/videos is just too big. The GP thinks of her as a popstar, not an artist. She needs to realize she makes pop. I think that's what the problem is. It's just sad cause I know how invested she is in her work.

Yeah, the reason critics drag her is because she talks so high of her work when at the end of the say, she makes pop music (even though it's better than average pop music).

That's why I want here to define who she is better. It's hard to tell if she wants to be taken as a pop star or a grand visionary. I would love if someone asked her this in an interview.

I just feel so bad because she got her single power back but at the expense of her album sales.

Honestly I think the whole "Gaga flopping" is just being blown out of proportion. Sure she's not at BTW numbers of sales or even popularity, but the album still sold decently and she's still getting press and delivering good performances. Hell, wasn't she apparently #1 WW at some point with ARTPOP? I think that was buried beneath all the "Gaga is irrelevant"-threads. But beyond all the tired vitriol on the internet (though there is a lot of it lately) surrounding her, I don't think she's hurting too bad.

Yes, I do think she deserves better. While it seems that not only are people generally over the Gaga schtick (which makes sense as she's generally stuck to her brand of quirk instead of trend-hopping or trying to tone herself down to appeal to the masses), but they seem to revel in her perceived failures this time around. Typical celebria, but it's just unnecessary.

I really enjoy the music and I know Gaga will deliver with the shows and visuals when the time comes, so unless you just stan for numbers and popularity, you don't really have anything to be worried about as a fan.

her answer would clearly be she wants to be both. that is the whole point of ARTPOP. now that she's failed pretty horribly at that, she'll either keep trying (and keep failing) or have to choose one or the other. But if you're wondering in her heart which she wants to be, quite simply she wants to be both.
