The ~unintended shadiness that the "three globally biggest popstars" bit adds a spark as well. It's not flamebaity enough to warrant any points for that part.

Hit potential: 8 I don't think I see that much shade on sunny days underneath an oak tree. The opportunities to drag are endless and even I had trouble narrowing down what shade I wanted to throw. It was a hot mess and then it kind of fizzled out. I feel like all you did was open flood gates to stan down and drag for filth while everyone kinda watched with popcorn. We've got SYG for that.
Personal opinion: 7 Absolute death at some of the choices in there. I can't even tell the troll answers apart from the real ones. Even though it was a mess, that's kind of what Base is all about. I only wish you had figured out a way to keep people on track and serious to the discussion. It wasn't one of my favorite threads because it didn't really have a focus. If you're gonna do a SYG shadefest, then go 100% with it. If you're gonna do an innocent thread asking for opinions then keep bitches on topic. Yours kinda fell in between and I don't know which one you were going for.

I’m not a fan of all those different questions in your OP. That makes for such an incohesive discussion with some people arguing with others over different points. Also, you seem to have two different overall questions, one asking what the future of Pop music is and the other asking who the trinity of Pop girls is. I guess they’re similar but with all these questions, you’re asking for a broad spectrum of answers. But then again, maybe that was your plan. Your thread was nothing spectacular and could have continued on being a nice little discussion or it could have been closed down due to flamebait comments. I was very tempted to derail the conversation to shade some artists but I think I got side tracked by work.

It would've led to more discussion!

At the end of the day does your entry/thread look good, yes it does. It just looks like there is another motive behind your thread. Second, this post http://atrl.net/forums/showthread.ph...93709#17793709. You basically gave a reason why you made this thread and it had nothing with wanting ATRL to have a discussion. Yes it is a challenge, but they do not know that and they shouldn't know that. Lastly, it just seems overloaded with questions. You gave a good way to spark discussion with your opinion on the "trinity". It just all seems to been done before as well.

I actually really like this topic. It brings forth a roundabout discussion over all the artists, but allows everyone to partake and not feel so threatened since it's not focusing on comparisons per say. Although you made it a rotating discussion, I think it would have served better just providing an example list of artists and their supposed legacies as an discussion inducer. I just feel like rotating topics don't always work well with these types of threads and actually hinder anticipation rather than encourage it since I'll have to WAIT to put my two cents in on my flop fave. So if you're going to do rotations, which usually die off, might as well go out with a bang as well and just let everyone come in.

Hit potential: 7 These threads are really inviting to stan wars. I'm surprised that it was as civil as it was. If you had made the thread a bit more specified and kept the artists revolving quickly enough then I think you would have had a hit thread. You might want to relaunch it tournament style with 16 original artists vying for the top spot.
Personal opinion: 8 I really like the revolving artist threads. They're always fun because you can bookmark how people vote on one popstar and throw it back in their face when they vote differently for another. Bookmarking and dragging is the best part of ATRL. I feel like you kind of abandoned it, though. It should have gotten way more replies than it did. You only went through three artists so far and you haven't even updated it since Sunday. Did you forget? Get bored of it? Abandon it like Edge abandoned his purity? Britney never got her turn and since this is the house that Britney built, I'm gonna have to fine you on that one. Unless you're saying that Britney is automatically remembered with a full legacy, in which case, carry on.

Your entry was the opposite of DOMINO’s in the sense that you placed your topics in the future and looked back on the legacy of the Pop girls. Funny OP but what it boiled down to was a repeat of all those other threads asking what someone’s legacy is. And for the most part, it’s always been the exact. same. answer. Meat dress. Performing ability. Hits. Winning American Idol. Tik Tok. 21. I assume you can decipher which legacy relates to whom? Your thread wasn’t really asking for anything mind blowing. It didn't really stir up any discussion and for the most part, people gave similar answers.

No one would want to come back and see what all has occurred in the thread.

Unfortunately though, it induced a lot of one word answers, and that's not going to keep the discussion running long enough. Perhaps if you added your two cents to the OP or actually (now that I'm reading through it) chimed in every now and then Maybe though, a better thread topic would've been something asking what about their fave makes them authentic to them or do/why they personally connect to their said faves. I don't ****ing know, I never go into that ugly ass section unless it's to my respective bases.

Hit potential: 7 Well, yours was not the thread with the most replies. Your first attempt at making a thread was too much obvious shade so it was reported ASAP. With this one, I feel like you could have used a little more friendly shade. If you had gone in a little harder on Gaga, then you probably could have had a hit thread. It's not like anyone's watching her back this week anyway.
Personal opinion: 7 I actually replied to your thread without realizing it was yours, or that it was an entry for this challenge. (I rarely ever look at avatars or usernames unless it's in a post that I'm quoting.) So I guess the thread caught my eye. Sadly, I think it was just filled with people naming their own faves. I hate threads like that. You can't trust most of these members to leave their stanning behind, so keep that in mind for each thread. Also, most people weren't making any worthwhile posts. Most people just swung by to drop a name and then leave. That would be better suited for a poll, but a discussion thread should lead to, well, discussion.

After such a high with last round, I felt like you sort of crashed into a standstill with this entry. The thread didn’t last particularly long, nor was it an exceptional idea. It might have drawn in more views with a shadier title but meh. You basically recreated a thread that has also been done to death, where one word responses are more than enough to answer your question(s). No one really arguing/discussing and it just happens to be another thread to post in just to raise your post count.

Not in the way that a huge argument between them would start, but moreso in a way that they'd discuss why they think their person is more authentic than the other.

It had the potential to get good with the responses, like I was waiting for the Xtina shade, but it never happened. No real shock factor to get people to want to post and discuss.

ATRL's Next TOP MEMBER Cycle 10 | The Top 2 ARE!?!?

Welcome ladies! Tonight we will be seeing who is moving on to becoming ATRL's Next Top Member.
Let me introduce the judges...
ENERGY

Cycle 8 & 9 Contestant | KITT

Cycle 9 Winner | MATTY

Host
Cycle 2 Winner | KATIE

ATRL Moderator | EOA

Cycle 8 Winner | GOLDEN

Guest Judge |
Earlier this evening you all met with the judges and we evaluated your entries...
HERE
Now it's time to see who is going home!!
3 members stand before me, but only 2 will continue on to becoming ATRL's Next Top Member.
The first member I call has been deemed best of the week and will have their name displayed in my signature until the next judging...
The best entry is...
1) DOMINO
AVERAGE JUDGE RANK:
1.4 | TOTAL JUDGE SCORE:
35 | TOTAL CONTESTANT SCORE:
N/A |
Congratulations, you are a FINALIST!
Will Scene and Connor please step forward.
I only have one name typed out in the Gold font below and that person will be moving on to becoming ATRL's Next Top Member.
Scene --- You were on top of the pack for like six straight challenges, three of them on top. However, on these past few challenges you have failed to impress the judges. These past few challenges have been focused on ATRL as a community, and one judge interestingly enough mentioned that you strive in the Games section. This hasn't been the first time you've heard this as I have pointed this out many times before as well in some challenges and outside of this game. Guest Judge Golden didn't really even knew who you were and he is someone that a lot of people know. Should you move on to becoming a finalist, possibly win, and show us that you can strive elsewhere on the forum.
Connor --- You were at the top of the pack, slipped a little, but then slowly returned back to the top. Now you're back at the bottom. When compared to Scene, you have not had as many highs as he had, but have had as many lows as he. I can't end this little speech without saying that Guest Judge Golden also didn't really even knew who you are on a first name basis. You and Scene are pretty much neck and neck at this current moment, so do you have what it takes to show that you too should be a finalist, possibly win, and show us that you can strive on the forum and make a name for yourself.
So who stays?
2) SCENE
AVERAGE JUDGE RANK:
2.2 | TOTAL JUDGE SCORE:
30.5 | TOTAL CONTESTANT SCORE:
N/A |
Congratulations, you are a FINALIST!
3) CONNOR
AVERAGE JUDGE RANK:
2.4 | TOTAL JUDGE SCORE:
29 | TOTAL CONTESTANT SCORE:
N/A |
Congratulations, you are a FINALIST!
YOU BOTH ARE MOVING ON TO THE FINALE TO COMPETE AGAINST DOMINO!!
Why? All three of your entries this challenge were all equally not impressive, so we're going to judge you based on your speeches.
However... Your Total Judge Score this round will start off as a basis on who will become ATRL's Next TOP MEMBER. So hopefully you made some great speeches to gain the points!
Keep an eye out for the Speeches soon!!!

I am not lying when I say that I didn’t know this game at all when I joined. I don’t know what has driven me to click on the games section but I’m glad I did it. This game has changed me for the better and is the best thing that has happened to me on ATRL.
When I signed up I didn't know what to expect and I applied in the last minute so my application was quite lackluster. Ever since our applications were posted I fought for a spot in the Top 14. I didn’t stop posting, knowing that I needed to convince the judges that I have what it takes. That application didn't define me in any way. Look where I am right now.
As soon as I found out that I was in the house I felt overly excited and had one main goal, which was winning this whole thing. Throughout the competition I have put a lot of effort in every single challenge and was consistently ranked high. For some reason that wasn't enough for me. I needed to get better and exceed my potential. When I submitted my most sophisticated entry in episode four I thought I did it. I thought I had to be either number one or two. But that wasn't the case and I had a meltdown - one that was very unnecessary when I think about it and I apologize for that.
It wasn’t until a few weeks in when I realized that I was actually doing a pretty good job and managed to get two top call outs in a row! I am always very hard on myself and that explains my meltdowns. But in the middle of the competition something hit me in the head and I felt like I had no chance anymore. What went wrong with me? I don't know why but I lost faith and didn't wanna participate in something that I knew I wouldn't win - so I quit... without thinking of the consequences. Matty helped me a lot in that time and talked some sense back into me. So did Kitt. When they showed support, a little light of hope ignited in me and I was convinced to stay. I am really grateful for that - so thank you again!
These meltdowns taught me a lot. I was being extremely weak and couldn't deal with the pressure. It was a pressure that I put on myself. With the help of the judges I was able to understand my mistakes, appreciate what I had accomplished and learn to put the pressure aside and just enjoy the moment. They helped me to realize that I was actually a really strong contender. Without my meltdowns I wouldn't have grown - they might have been annoying for some of you but for me they were a learning experience. From week to week I started to regain my confidence. I was happy to get to the next round and didn't complain about my ranking. Obviously the judges saw something in me and that kept me going.
I'm an emotional wreck, even in real life. In fact, this game has taught me to be myself on this forum. My entries were never affected by my emotions, though. I honestly believe that my entries were consistently one of the strongest of the bunch. But even without these entries I think I got what it takes. I am being well-received on ATRL, even if I don't make such a big impact every time. I have learned so much in this game. It was an emotional roller coaster for me. I lost myself in it but then found DOMINO again and eventually became a force to be reckoned with.
As you can see I have been through many mental ups and downs on ATRL's Next Top Member but I still made it this far. I deserve to be here and and I deserve to be crowned the next Top Member. I have the will and the potential despite what others think of me. Out of everybody I want this the most. I have been one of the most active ones in this thread. This game is very important to me - maybe even a little too much.
I want to thank Matty for making this possible and I wanna thank all the judges for their patience and perseverance. You didn't have to help me in my dark times but you did and I am so thankful for that. Otherwise I wouldn't have had the strength to get this far. I also want to thank all the contenders for making this competition so thrilling. It was the best experience I had on this forum. It's been funny, nerve-wracking, emotional, sour, dramatic and sad - I genuinely enjoyed this cycle. Now here I am, polished, determined and ready to take ATRL by storm.

If you look at my entry from the final three, you will see that I really value authenticity. Both in pop music artists and in real life, I think it is very important for people to be genuine. Throughout this entire competition, I have stayed true to myself, my friends, and above all, my values. I've displayed sophistication both in the thread throughout all the drama, and, on a wider scale, the entire site. My brand is true to who I am and who I aspire to be on this website. Not once throughout this entire cycle have I acted fake or unlike myself. What you see is what you get.
The fact stands that the real me is not someone who is typically sassy or shady. That in itself is another reason that I should be named ATRL's next top member; I bring something new to the table. In the sea of sarcastic and judgmental members, I am unique. I am not someone who pounces on the opportunity to personally attack others. Rather, I display a level of sophistication, rationality, and reason in all of my posts. I can see other members' ideas and perspectives, even when they differ from my own. My judgment is rarely clouded by "stan goggles", and I have a true insight into how other people think and feel. This important characteristic of my personality sets me apart; amongst so many rowdy, rambunctious members, I am a calm voice of reason.
My mellow, level-headed personality gives me the ability to be extremely multi-faceted (this was even acknowledged by one of my favorite contestants, Citrus, when he assigned us drag queens!) I can get along well with an extremely diverse selection of members, regardless of stan base or personality. ATRL needs a top member who isn't just an advocate for their favorite artist, but rather an advocate of a raw love for all music. This site is so often divided based on silly arguments, but the reason that we are all here is that we love music. We often forget that, and I would love to be the member to introduce that general appreciation for music back onto ATRL.
Another key element of a top member that I think I possess is the ability to be tenacious and determined. This is so important both in real life and on a website on which you have to be extremely persistent to get your point across. Throughout this cycle, I have demonstrated an exceptional level of perseverance and tenacity. During the GIF Challenge, I would have been eliminated had Retro not become a moderator. I was at the bottom of the pack. However, as you all saw, I progressed more and more with each subsequent challenge, and, by the last challenge, I was back on top. I took the judges' critiques and ran with them, improving each week. Imagine if I were to be named ATRL's Next Top member - how much I could "improve" my image and presence here until I become one of the most widely-recognized members on the site.
My impact on this site is just getting started. Before ATRL's Next Top Member, my posts were already getting recognized and my presence on the site was growing. Even though I was a standout contestant from the beginning (Katie even said that she thought that I would win the competition), I have so much room to grow. My entries have never been anywhere near perfect, but they have been good enough to get me the top callout twice and only bad enough to put me in the bottom two once. Despite the fact that I am a little rough around the edges, I've really internalized everything the judges have said to me throughout the entire competition. This will allow me to transform from a rough piece of coal into a diamond (shoutout to Rihanna) as I progress on this site. All of the comments given to me have made me learn so much that will allow me to become even more relevant on ATRL and truly display my voice and opinions across a wide variety of topics. I've exhibited such growth, and the sky is the limit for me here on ATRL.
If you want to have a member that will give you determination, sophistication, and all of himself throughout his entire stay on ATRL, crown me Next Top Member. I am 100% real, unadulterated, Connor, and I know that I have given my all to be the winner of this competition.

ATRL's Next Top Member | A Journey of Self-Discovery and Triumph When I first signed up for ATRL in the Summer of 2012, I figured it would be just another forum that I would use for a couple of weeks and then leave behind. All of that thinking changed when I saw that signups were open for ATRL's Next Top Member. Being a huge fan of America's Next Top Model, I ran to signup because I knew it would be a fun experience, and I wanted to see how far I could make it in the competition. I made the top 14, but I stumbled right out of the gate, and things didn't exactly turn around after that either. I was eliminated in 7th place and was told by the judges that I didn't seem confident in myself or my entries.
After my elimination, I went back over all of my entries and realized they were right. I came across very doubtful, and I could tell I didn't give my all to any of the entries. I took the cycle on with a 'whatever happens, happens' attitude, and I truly wasn't ready to become a top member. So I decided to explore ATRL a bit, learn a few more things about the site, and take part in discussions and debates. I made new friends and I started to feel welcome here; like this was finally where I belonged. I could be myself and not worry about what people were saying about me. This instilled a newfound confidence in myself, and I knew that I was finally ready to come back to Top Member.
So back in September, I signed up for Cycle 10. I knew that this was going to be my comeback cycle, and I was going to take every challenge put forth to me head on and give it my all. Despite a stumble in the third week, I proved that I was dedicated to the competition. I started getting 2nd place, and eventually, I got top callout three challenges in a row.
However, being a top member is so much more than winning challenges or having a good layout for your entries; it's so much more than being 'iconic' or being popular. To be a top member, you have to believe in yourself, be open to change, and be confident.
I started out my Top Member experience a year ago, with no self confidence and no desire to win. I was just there for a fun time and to meet new people. I knew nothing about the site or the community within it. And now I sit here in the final three of Cycle 10, writing my speech. I have a one in three shot at winning this and becoming the next Top Member. This is so beyond surreal to me. I have noticed such a change in myself after taking part in this cycle. Letting go of past demons and opening myself up to people was such a scary, yet exciting experience. Finding my inner self and knowing that I'm worth it, not being afraid to be who I am or say what I feel... these are all things I learned through Top Member. Some may think that this is just a silly little forum game. But to me, it's so much more.
I embody what Top Member is all about. Someone who has grown, evolved, opened themselves to others, stepped outside their comfort zone, remained dedicated to the game, learned new things, stayed confident, and stayed strong.
Title or no title, I know that without question,
I AM a Top Member!
the title would be nice to have tho! |

Do you know how long it took me to scroll fully down!?
I couldn't fathom any of you leaving this round either though, I really couldn't. I'm just glad I don't have to be Matty for these things. You guys are like my babies now But no more making excuses for either of you three anymore. The speech is definitely where I'm going to have a surefire stance on who to cut off.
I swear this thread's been dead ever since Nicki left It had a good run though.
