They are front loaded with their singles, mainly. Their album sales remain consistent, hence selling 1.9m and 1.8m with their debut & sophomore, respectively. TMH dropped just 67% in its second week, from 540k to 176k. Which yes the average decline is around 70%, but even a little bit lower than that is impressive.
The initial estimates are 500k, but that's being foolish. Syco/Columbia will discount it Thanksgiving and Black Friday/weekend, and that will send sales even higher -- my personal idea is in the 600-625k range. Which at that point they'd need to do 80% for Britney Jean to be safe. Even if they do 500k, something like 70-75% is still worrysome for a #1 entry.
Then you have Cyber Monday and of course the now confirmed SNL appearance, with a song like "Story of My Life" having the chance to resonate consumers versus their previous material's sound. All falling in line during our release week.
And then there's not even being sure she'll make the prediction mark.
So yeah, I'm not really concerned about the sales or position debut because the album sounds excellent. But if it will be discussion, I'll hop on in. And I think anyone concerned about the numbers or #1 debut should consider all of this.
