Correct, if they had gone with "Venus" it would have been Born This Way era all over again. "Venus" would have been the flop second single and they would have probably had to rush release "Gypsy" like "The Edge of Glory" to try and save the era. Whoever forced her to choose "Do What U Want" saved her career and the era.

Hopefully Interscope spotted Gypsy's overwhelming worldwide response over the past few days and are ready to make it the 3rd single.
Getting it performed on SNL seemed like a right first step towards this.
Still don't see the point in performing a random album track over the lead single which is still in the top 10. If she gets three performances, then sure. Otherwise it should've been Applause + DWUW.
Last time she did perform Judas, BTW and TEOG. Fingers crossed
She needs to completely scrap Gypsy performance.

DWUW is at 16 meaning that from here on out it has ample opportunity to rise up into the top ten and considering it's stayed at that position for a good while now, she'll be okay. Not sure what any of that has to do with the 3rd single but let's just enjoy the ride we have the AMA's coming too!
