I don't really care about how ATRL views her. She's a pop star, but she is one with a lot of urban credibility that will probably keep her around longer or from flopping harder than Britney or Gaga. That's my point.

Yeah, but my point is she *is* a pop star and that's why she'd inevitably be compared. It doesn't have to be a 1:1 correlation for her to be "in the game" and pitted against the others.
Her urban appeal provides advantages in some regards and disadvantages in others (e.g., international singles charts), but any time fans or the press make a case for the "queen of pop" title they are already evaluating her in that context with the others.
It's not like it's just limited to ATRL, either. She's a Pop/R&B artist who is one of the biggest pop stars of the past 15 years, so it only makes sense to me why the comparisons are drawn.
