The most impressive thing is that her 4 opening week sales were seen as a huge disappointment at the time. They were her lowest to date. Bday opened with 541k and IASF with 482k. If RTW was a huge hit, that # would prob. be 410k.

Yeah, but my point is she *is* a pop star and that's why she'd inevitably be compared. It doesn't have to be a 1:1 correlation for her to be "in the game" and pitted against the others.

Her urban appeal provides advantages in some regards and disadvantages in others (e.g., international singles charts), but any time fans or the press make a case for the "queen of pop" title they are already evaluating her in that context with the others.

It's not like it's just limited to ATRL, either. She's a Pop/R&B artist who is one of the biggest pop stars of the past 15 years, so it only makes sense to me why the comparisons are drawn.

Yeah, Beyonce is at a slight advantage because she services two markets. 4 era was ignored by Top 40 but r&b/hip hop radio supported Beyonce hard. Britney and Gaga only service one market so if they flop on that, there's no crutch.

Streaming is a better indication of popularity than airplay, but they need to find a way to distinguish between videos where the song is incidental to its popularity and actual music videos/performances of the song.

Basically. When pop was fickle (as they are with everyone eventually) with Beyonce and her music, "Love on Top," "Party" and "Dance 4 U" became huge staples on urban radio. When pop radio stops playing Gaga or Britney, they're done.

Yah but if she's more comparable to Alicia why does Bey put up such consistently impressive tour numbers while Alicia's have always given a touch of the tragic in comparison? What's the difference there? She doesn't fit that mold in any exact sense, either.
