Are you gonna attempt to talk about Janet and Beyoncé's legacies and try to explain why you believe Bey's is bigger, or are you just gonna throw stale shade?
I love Janet, and I think she has an incredible impact, but VERY FEW in this generation can name even one of her songs. She lacks that from other divas of her time. All the girls have that ONE song everyone will remember them by, or that ONE album, Janet has neither. The only thing people even remotely remember her by is her Nip Slip. That overshadowed her entire career.
Beyoncé - Single Ladies/Crazy In Love/Survivor/Bootylicious/Say My Name
Rihanna - WFL/Umbrella/WMN
Katy Perry - IKAG/Cali Gurls/Firework
GaGa - Poker Face/BTW
Ke$ha - TiK ToK
Taylor Swift - You Belong With Me/IKYWT
Miley Cyrus - PITUSA/WB/WCS
Britney - BOMT/OIDIA/Toxic
Nicki Minaj - Starships/Super Bass
Mariah Carey - AIWFCIY/We Belong Together
Madonna - LAP/Vogue/
Celine Dion - MHWGO
Whitney Houston - IWALY/IWDWS
Brandy - The Boy Is Mine
TLC - Waterfalls/No Scrubs
Monica - Angel of Mine
Aaliyah - Are You That Somebody?/Try Again
Carly Rae - Call Me Maybe
Adele - RITD/Someone Like You
Ashanti - Foolish
Lil Kim - Magic Stick
Avril Lavine - Girlfriend/Complicated
Alicia Keys - Fallin'/No One
Shakira - Hips Don't Lie/Whenever, Wherever
Janet - ????
All of them have that ONE or TWO songs that everyone knows, Janet doesn't have that.
Maybe for Janet. All she has to pass down is her music (even though it didn't get too far), but Beyonce has a lot more variety to offer as for how people will remember her by.
-fashion(Dereon Stores, the significance of power( what her and Jay Z prove to be able to accomplish because of this), her stand on feminism (her face is actually already in the history books for this), humanitarianism (video), movies, etc...
Goodness..... Beyonce's star power, her crossing over into Hollywood, her humanitarianism, her star power....all of that has come through...her MUSIC. And it goes back to the days Diana, Whitney and Janet were generating revenue on a par with their white peers, revenue so high it allowed them to successfully enter other fields.
The vehicle by which Beyonce makes note of her stance on feminism is through her....MUSIC.
And you are clearly ignorant of the political, cultural and social implications of Janet's career and accomplishments. You're here for the "here and now", and you can't even get that right.
Janet's music didn't get too far? And 1+1=3. Oh wait....

Oh I see why you wrote this now.
What I meant by saying that "this isn't about musical legacy though" is that this about their entire legacy altogether (it's the question on the OP), I suppose I could've explained what I meant..

You went in!!
It's still all MUSICAL legacy, though.
#1- Music is where they're most successful in their careers. They're not making huge waves in any industry outside of music.
#2- Music is the platform that allowed them to find whatever success they did outside of it.
#3- Music will be what they're remembered for: their own work, as well as their artistry being referenced by others.

Your ignorance on Janet is further showing with this comment. Janet branched out in the film industry before she even thought about doing music. Janet was also a fashion trendsetter in her time too, many stars have said this. 'Nasty' has been cited as a female empowering anthem before. Just log off already, you're embarrassing yourself in your own thread.

Says who? You? Have you taken a survey and gathered the results to see if they support this? Your own experiences are not the same as everyone else's.

This is YOUR list, based in nothing except YOUR own experiences.

1) Bey has grossed over $1 Billion at the Box Office http://atrl.net/forums/showthread.php?t=405961
2) That's cool, but if I would've written down "Musical Legacy" in the OP only the arguments that have to do with their music would count.
3) Bey is an exception. She will have a lot more to be remembered about than just the musical aspect.
Beyoncé, Janet is a very talented woman but let's be honest, most young people don't even know her music; they know her as the sister of the way more famous Michael Jackson.
The things she will be remembered for are her being MJ's sister and the Super Bowl scandal.

From those you listed I only know Rhythm Nation bc it was in that movie "Happy Feet 2"
Local ignorance doesn't dictate who will be remembered more. I'm sure at Janet's peak there were others who asked a similar question regarding her legacy vs. that of another who peaked before her.
Because we're in THIS moment where Bey is more talked about and has more opportunities doesn't mean that 20 years from now she will be as we make her today. They all have to travel that path where their legacies will be questioned by a younger, newer generation. Times have changed a lot since Janet's days.
No one knows who will be remembered more because none of us will live forever.
