Indie rock/alternative yes, that's a viable option. Experimental/psychedelic, yes. It's a different crowd. However "classic" rock, and also especially (formerly) mainstream kind of heavy metal, aren't too kind to women.
Also, rock music is dead and still remains dead. Hardly a good idea just for that alone. You don't HAVE to become a martyr by choice.

i disagree. i think anything's better than what she's been doing. i think an image overhaul and musical re-invention is needed. she took the world by storm being different and now that the novelty has worn off, it's time for something new.
Gags can do pop-rock the RIGHT way. It hasn't been done right since the 80s. Prince was one of the last ones to do it properly. Lames like Avril and Pink being considered pop-rock nowadays is just
Lad Gag can shut them down and get the 35+/white straight male audience fawning over her as long as the timing and music is right. if she just let her piano do more of the talking instead of her costumes, she'd go a long way. i suspect she doesn't have the foresight or vision to pull this off tho.
