After some reflection, I think the problem with the reviews and negative reactions is that everyone is reacting within the context of Gaga's self-inflated bull crap, whereas when you listen to the music without an unrealistic expectation or utter perfection due to the title and hype, you realize that this really is her best album yet. You could imagine half the songs being on a (better) sequel to The Fame Monster and a few in the same position relative to BTW.

I'm beginning to believe that ARTPOP is Gaga's best studio album yet. While Born This Way may have some higher highs than ARTPOP (The Edge of Glory, Electric Chapel, Bloody Mary) it has much worse lows than ARTPOP (Highway Unicorn).
With ARTPOP's worst songs (Fashion!, Aura, Jewels & Drugs), at least they're tolerable in a sense and still listenable, unlike songs like Americano, Hair, and Higway Unicorn that may make you cringe a bit.
ARTPOP > Born This Way > The Fame
I don't think it's fair to bring The Fame Monster into the mix because the extra songs that could've made it an actual official album could've either been incredible or some of the worst songs of her career. We will just never know.
We really shouldn't let reviews get to us. Blackout is one of Britney's most critically-panned albums and it's arguably her best to date (Or at least one of, I know Retro stans for Oops!

)
