The two worst things happened to
TRL and MTV in general in 2007 were the reformatting of
TRL from votes only to the new format and the illegal termination of SuChin Pak. However, a few bright things came out of
TRL in 2007, such as Lyndsey Rodrigues' debut on
TRL, Boys Like Girls retired, The White Stripes debuts, Announcement of the VMA nominees, and LP debuted with
What I've Done.
These were the two gravest sins ever commited by MTV:
1. Reformatting of TRL to favor the Billboard Top 40, instead of solely votes.
This allowed Soulja **** and Flo Rida to be #1, Ashley Tisdale to cheated out of retirement, Armor For Sleep, Paramore, and Jordin jackknived out of #1, but in fairness, it allowed Alicia Keys, Timbaland, Fergie, Nickelback, and Finger 11 to be on the Top 10, which would've never been possible under the old format. The MTV News reporting on TRL... and the show in general, went into the shitter once SuChin Pak stopped reporting. October 3rd, 2007-present: TRL = RIP!
The TRL format was one grave sin, but firing Pak was another severe offense committed by MTV and the worst MTV News firing ever.
Now here's MTV other major felony committed in 2007.
2. MTV News "illegally" firing SuChin Pak. Why would any crackhead MTV exec fire Pak? Perhaps MTV News management forgot to ****ing realize that Pak was the best correspondent in MTV News history, and I suspect John Norris told MTV Management to fire the UC-Berkeley graduate (Pak) and Norris should've been fired a long time ago! I guess it had to happen sooner or later, but I wish MTV News wouldn't have made a criminal move to fire the #1 MTV News correspondent of all-time. After Pak left the 29th Floor at 1515 Broadway, MTV News really shark jumped in its coverage and quality. MTV News, for your 2008 wish, why don't you-- once and for all-- fire John "Fascist" Norris! Norris has caused MTV News reporting to be terrible. MTV News was the last bastion of decency and of any kind of substance left on MTV, was offcially dead and JTS when Pak left MTV. While the 2 new reporters, Kash and Stolz (who I both like) are decent, they can never match, or come close to what Loder did in his heyday or Pak. The Asian-American community, a lot of the ATRL community, me, and the Korean press is all up in arms over this.
Both reasons have cause for MTV's decline across the board-- even MTV News declined in substance and quality this year.
TRL is back on Monday, January 7th.
