2 things.
1. It's not just Katy that that happens to my friend. I just used Katy as an example because it was the most accessible. And No, DWUW can definitely kick off while Applause remains steady in the top 10. And of course Gaga isn't Katy but singles don't have to drop out of the top 20 before another single is picked up.
And 2. I was using Work Bitch as an example yet again because not only you but many others have continued to wish Applause to die. Releasing DWUW even LATER after its digital release would hinder the single more than it has already been hindered due to the lag between digital release and being serviced to radio. The timing at this point is just fine. The song is picking up at a nice pace and will be sitting quietly in the top 20 before the Christmas/Year-end Freeze and that's good enough. Applause will see some good air play too due to the year-end charts because it's the 45th most played song on POP radio as of right now. By the end of the year, I'm sure it'll be further up on the list considering its radio chart run thus far.
It'll be just fine bud.
