You can't just call it "wasteful promo" just because it didn't help MTN that much.
Her X Factor UK performance didn't either, but got DWUW in the top10, the same could have happened.
At the end of the day if the performance had been amazing (à la Paparazzi VMA), it would have generated a lot of extra buzz, which would definitely have helped the album and the current single.
