Track-by-Track Review of ARTPOP itsAllen Bonus Track Edition
First off, this review may come off biased, but I listened to each track MULTIPLE times. And I still have the same reaction to them as I did the first time, for the most part. However, this is Lady Gaga's best work to date. Everything is so perfectly done. I cannot begin to explain how proud I am in Gaga and her selection in producers. I wish we had more Zedd tracks, but that is a discussion for another time. The tracks on this album, although extremely heavy hitting, do not come of as forced, or "try hard." The album is a fun, catchy, chill, and bad ****ing ass. This is The Fame Monster's EDM sister.
1.
Aura- Although I prefer the demo version and wish we had it in HQ. The official studio version has grown on me a lot. The way she sings the verses in the official version has grown on me. The choruses are very strange and weird, but this is Lady Gaga afterall, and they make you want to SCREAM with her. The chorus is one of her best of her career, and the haters will deal. I actually wish it was a little longer though. 10/10
2.
Venus- Loved it since we had the first snippet. The fact Lady Gaga produced this track herself, proves her talent as an artist who can do more than create bubble gum pop songs. The chorus is not as powerful as some make it out to be though. I actually prefer the verses and pre-chorus. 10/10
3.
G.U.Y.- This is the best track on the album. The introduction is so seductive and sexy, along with the entire song really. AND ****ING ZEDD ROCKED THE PRODUCTION! This is why I wanted him to produce the whole damn thing. Her vocals are powerful and very well done for the track. The voice that was in the introduction makes a comeback around 2:40 of the track, and the way it is mixed in with Gaga is just INCREDIBLE. I cannot praise this song enough. NEIN ZEDD! 10/10
4.
Sexxx Dreams- So sexy, seductive, and fun. This is the song that I was waiting for from Gaga! A song straight up sexy and about sex. I love the production, the lyrics, and her vocals served as always. I love the light breathing/moaning after she says "When I lay in bed, I touch myself and think of you." And the new bridge is AMAZING! I just cannot at her vocals. and I love the "I can't believe I'm telling this and oh my god." With the perfect light laughing. I prefer this over the live version. 10/10
5.
Jewels N' Drugs- Okay. I actually do like this song. But I feel the other rappers were not necessary, T.I. was the only rapper that was needed. I hated how instead of having they break down on it's own they put one of the rappers over it. 8/10
6.
Cake Like Lady Gaga- One year later and I can still bop to this song. It is almost a guilty pleasure to sing the lyrics to this song. SNATCH YO ****IN WEAVE OUT BITCH! This song is very fun and great to listen to. 10/10
7.
MANiCURE- I love this song live because it really focuses on her vocals, which are made for songs like this. I love what she did with the studio though, her vocals have a certain raspyness to them, and the vocals are not forced unlike some of her previous efforts with "rock." The chorus and post-chorus are LIFE! CAN YOU FEEL IT?!!? CAN YOU FEEL IT?!?! And the guitar solo at the end is SERVING!! I cannot wait for this to SLAY us live during the ARTPOP Ball. I do miss the HEAAAAAAAAAAAL MEEEEEEEEEEEE parts throughout the song though. 10/10
8.
Do What U Want (feat. R Kelly)- We've had this for a while but I will just say it is a very radio friendly track that will likely draw in some of her old fans back into liking her again. The song has grown on me A LOT since it's initial release. 10/10
9.
Artpop- This is a very chill and relaxed song. This may be why we like it so much, it sounds like something that came straight out of The Fame Monster. The production isn't overdone, but has some highlights throughout the track. I am SO PLEASED, she kept the HEE HEE'S, and they are incorporated in the song brilliantly. I cannot praise the production enough on this track. I am very impressed. 10/10
10.
Swine- I have seen so many of you on here drag this track to the PITS! And I will never understand why. I refuse to believe DJWS is the only producer who had some work done on the production, I hear several Zedd influenced moments. But regardless the vocals ARE PERFECT! I don't understand why anyone would want them to be anything more than they are right now, if that was the case it would come across as try hard and forced. The vocals are great and I am glad they didn't force them. The breakdown sounds amazing in a car by the way. One of Gaga's best produced tracks to date. The beat is infectious and very easy to sing along to. 10/10
11.
High Princess/Stache- STACHE HA LONGEVITY! ZEDD HA LONGEVITY! This song is still a complete bop one year later. The song is INFECTIOUS! It really should have been a bonus track or something for some of the non-monsters/ATRLers who have yet to hear it. 10/10
12.
Donatella- One of the shocks of the album for me. I was pleasantly surprised at The Fame teas that this song brought to me. It is a track that is just FUN! This is a LADY GAGA track, it isn't try hard or overdone, it is just a track to have some fun to. If you can't dance and werq to the verses, you have a serious problem. "I'm a rich bitch, I'm the upper class!" This is the Gaga type tracks that people wanted back. 10/10
13.
Fashion!- Wow. Another surprise from Gaga! This track is definitely 80's inspired. However, the track does NOT sound dated in any form. And I if you heard The Black Eyed Peas previous album, you can definitely hear the Will.I.Am influence in this song. Again, another The Fame style track. "I feel ontop of the world." Yes Gaga, welcome back to being ontop of the game in pop music. This is the sound that I believe radio's could be heading towards. 10/10
14.
Mary Jane Holland- I stanned from the first snippet, but not even that snippet could prepare me for this EPIC song! I liked Bad Kids, but THIS is what Bad Kids should have sounded like. Gaga sounds bad ass throughout the entire song, not just the verses. Madeon definitely shined throughout this song, the production is perfect over her vocals, it does not sound noisy or forced. The verses and the pre-chorus is the highlight of this song for me however. 10/10
15.
Dope- I'm sorry, but I can't with this song. I listened to it and it is just so out of place on this album. Even as a ballad, I can't praise it. 5/10
16.
Gypsy- This song is GROWING on me so much, even as we speak. So this rating will likely go even higher for me. I love the vocals and the production. I absolutely LOVE the "Im Im Im Im Im a gypsy," lines in the STUDIO version. I was really skeptical with the live version, but I do like it. However, I do not want it to be a single, it would be another Marry The Night sized mess. 7/10.
17.
Applause- We all know this track, so I am not going to waste my time. 10/10.
Good day sistrens
