What I don't understand about Gaga is why did she give her album such a grand and serious title if the whole goal was to not be serious/''dark'' as she was in the last album and make (well, her idea of) fun and mindless music (Manicure, Venus, J&D, Fashion, Applause). That title is setting her up. She says artpop can mean anything which is total bs and is really just code for "it's meaningless". She attached so much meaning to BTW. She thought it was going to free the world and sh*t
The fact that people automatically make the "art = serious" association is half the problem.

Isn't ARTPOP about showing how 'meaningless' pop music can be viewed as art?

People keep making this point but I don't think they're getting what Gaga was trying to do with the ARTPOP concept. It's reversed Warhol right? I think it has to do more with the visuals than with the music. I don't think she said "I'm going to make an ARTSY sounding album".
