Ja Rule was not a singer. Nelly, didn't get into his country singing stage till a bit later ? Neither had the impact on the genre/changed the game like Kanye did. Picking my favorite alicia album is like picking a favorite disciple.
Of course my least favorite is Girl on Fire(Judas) but even she has redeemable qualities and I use multiple songs.People don't realize that Alicia is a FORCE in Asia, literally every song premiered in the top 50 of the GOAN foreigner charts, Tears Always Win sold like 400K and is now platinum
It fluctuates between the Element of Freedom, As I Am , and DOAK most of the time.
As I Am is such an underrated gem as is Element but I feel as if it's more appreciated in retrospect because of it's lack of hits.
I always say that Element of Freedom is IA...SF done right. I always compare because I was raised on Alicia and Bey, almost solely, and while I adored bey so much as a child the older I got the more I saw her as... Not all she's cracked up to be.
The Element breathed life into her discography because it was such a huge departure from her roots but it was believable because Alicia has always been first and foremost an artist and not a product. It is a beautiful album; a flawless dedication to love that makes people like me that want to fall in love so badly cry.
See many people complain about the deterioration of Alicia's vocal quality(she actually got it back!) but I think that every strain just shows the emotion and effort she puts into her music.
