He was an average opera singer but he shook (just a tiny bit) the foundations of pop.
And shortly before he died on AIDS (he was the first famous artist who died from that disease), battle -scarred, he could play with the Berliner Philarmoniker at the Waldbühne in Berlin, it was his proudest moment.
I wish he had lived to see the beginnings of MTV. The music video as an art form is something he could have really benefited from. His opera voice was so unique.
