Her verses are always awkward, idk what ya'll are talking about. She's always had soaring, up-tempo choruses with midtempo verses that have... really tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Her biggest songs are examples of this.. Bad Romance, Poker Face, etc.

Venus is pretty much the exact same formula that made Bad Romance so big. A giant, thumping, 90s sounding chorus with simple lyrics and a huge beat? Check.
Bizarre verses that sound like they're sung in a foreign accent, ripe with cheeky lyrics, triple entrendes and cultural allusions? Check.
A slow, build-up bridge that was literally designed for drag queens to vogue in gay bars? Check.

Don't hate on the verses goddamnit!

This definitely should've been the first single. The era would've been off to a better start if Venus was the first single and then Do What U Want as the second single. I think Venus would've done SO much better than Applause is doing right now.

But on the other hand, I might be wrong because we never expected Applause to perform moderately.

Okay people need to stop this argument though. Yes its true her verses are always somewhat awkward lyrically in comparison to the choruses but at the same time the lyrics of Bad Romance are not nearly as awkwardly off-putting as the verse lyrics in both Applause and Venus. The latter sounds more disjointed than Bad Romance did HOWEVER I still think its a catchy ass mess and I still like it a lot. In comparing this to Bad Romance and Poker Face you're essentially implying its just as good as them, but just because it shares certain elements (as if it obviously would since their all Gaga brand songs) doesn't mean its on BR's level.
