Well, if I remember correctly, it started (or at least was meant to) as a harmless means of getting an 'old school-lite' hip-hop feud going --- basically the motif behind Kendrick's role in "Control". It was somewhat of a gimmick, initially. I'm not sure if it escalated into something authentic down the line.

From my experience, Eminem is the default rapper that white guys who really aren't into hip hop like. They'll drag all the other rappers you mentioned to the pits, but Em's everything.

I suppose since because Eminem's white, other white guys find him more relatable (which is understandable) but the ignorance that I've seen surrounding hip hop from a lot of Eminem's fans is astounding.
