They don't care about sales, true. But the fact that some artists like Gaga and Adele need much less promotion, hit singles, radio hits (than Katy, promotion doesn't really apply to Rih/Pink) and such while still selling more albums shows that the GP is more interested in Adele and Gaga.
Pink is not a singles artist in my opinion, she does need hit singles to move more albums but she moves lots of albums and has huge GP interest in tours. Her fanbase might be small compared to Gaga's, Taylor's, 1D's or JB's, but she still has lots of GP interest.
and she had multiple smashes with every of her other albums
