But I don't remember if that happened with Recovery as well though. As some as said before it's probably Prince or Garth Brooks. Eminem and his record label are not dumb to do not release the album as physical only. Recovery has sold pretty well at digital market.

Not every album goes to preorder.

If Em was ever planning this we wouldn't find out when the release is right around the corner lol.

Sis, Prince has always embraced the internet. Had a site up back in 96-97 and was even streaming content back then! The major reason Prince "left" the internet for a while was because he wasn't making significant cash off his sites vs. touring. Plus there was major backlash with the LotusFlow3r site (minimal new content, $80 for a $15 CD set w/ a single exclusive track + a t-shirt).

I'm sure a bulk of 4 sales were physical and of course non of the songs were digital monsters or even terrors. Seems like something she'd do and have a huge campaign about it.

Garth is coming back til 2014-15. He certainly hasn't been recording to surprisingly drop something in 2 months. Plus his Walmart deal is pretty well known, doubt Apple would be up in arms about not being able to sell it.

Bey's a superstar, her album is highly speculated & anticipated. If she came back and withheld from iTunes it'd be a mess. A mess I can see happening.

He's been "unretired" for the last few years. It's very possible he's been secretly recording material for the last few years. Bowie pulled it off. As for iTunes, I'm willing to be they've been trying to get him on the service for years and he's always refused.

I meant again. He was one of the firsts to originally do the whole Internet thing back in the day. I thought it also had something to do with him thinking it was just a fad.

Garth won't do iTunes because he supports all the songwriters on his albums. If he put his albums up, they would have to be album only. The Wal Mart deal ended years ago

He did say that, saying it was "over". If you read between the line though, you'll see otherwise. Since 2004, he's been a pretty in-demand live performer. So it's a lot easier setting up a tour vs. trying to put out an album.

IIRC, he's making like 6-7 figures a year touring. He has the clout to demand that pay. In comparison, he probably made like 4 figures with his last few albums. Prince just doesn't draw the album sales like he used to. Plus, you have fan and critic backlash against the new material, for the most part.

Oh I know he's not retired but for album purposes I believe it'll be 2014. Even said in an interview that year and it makes sense with the "sevens aligned" message, unless he was just name dropping lol.

I guess I wouldn't be shocked if he has an album ready but the Apple thing still doesn't click. Why be mad if they know his stance on holding out all these years?
