If that song does well, her next singles will fare better as stations who may not have played them at all will be more open to doing so, despite them being a little "cooky". Much better for airplay, which will be better for sales.

Very well said. A "typical Gaga" song probably still wouldn't smash right now. But with the progress that Applause has made with getting radio back on her side plus an even more appealing followup like DWUW, she's headed in the right direction. I think by single #3 she'll be able to release something less safe. Interscope is smarter than most of you will ever give them credit for. I have to laugh every time someone makes a comment about how they only made DWUW the single because it topped iTunes. As if they don't have many other reasons. As if they aren't aware of the preorder effect and how Venus and Dope will probably build even bigger leads. My guess is they made it a promo single to gauge the public reception. And as far as that goes its better than anything since TEOG, and Bad Romance before that.
