Nobody wants to be gay as a black male in the music industry so saying he used that as gimmick is ********... If anything it helped his music break certain demographics
It's not a gimmick imo, but you can't deny that the timing was kinda hmmm, how can I say this, fishy?
There's nothing wrong with gimmicks though, if you make them and can back it up with talent then it's good.
This. Every major artist have had some form of gimmicks. A lot of people believe Adele doesn't use them but even she dose it's just that hers aren't as extreme as Mileys or Gagas. The whole heartbroken 60's vibe is her gimmick but she backs it up with talent which eventually overshadows all the other ********.
Nothing wrong with him coming out, I celebrate that and command it. The problem was the timing. Like a week before his album get released and right after he came out he pushed the album release a little earlier. That screams gimmick. He shouldn't use his sexually to sell records.
His intentions probably weren't to use his sexuality to sell records. Unfortunately for him, he probably didn't realize how coincidental this all was given how close he came out to his release date. A bad PR move on his part.

I believe that it wasn't his intentions but it wasn't a bad PR move, it did after all expose him to different audiences that wouldn't care about him.
