Hmm yes the way they set up her character arc gave a bit of a "how to make a screenplay for dummies" tea, too obvious and easy. But it's the kind of film meant to be a thrill ride and it still packed a strong emotional punch, for a film about survival in space they did exactly what they had to do with the characters because most of the film had to focus on the immediate danger they were in.
