I think Applause underperformed WW because it doesn't sound very current, it sounds more like something that would have come out in 2010.
It underperformed WW because she fixed the promo on the US and because she had been absent for 2 years. The GP didn't know a thing about ha ass. I think APPLAUSE true mission was to just put her in the map in prep for the second single and the album, even though we all know she isn't a single artist.
