I thought this game's story was actually better than before. Maybe on-par with B&W, but definitely better than those before that.

BW2's story is by far the best of the franchise.
It gave us so much background information, great characters and a villain team that was well thought out for once.
Storywise;
5 > 3 > 1 > 2 > 6 > 4

I really liked the Sevii Islands 
I think BW2 set the bar pretty high story-wise for me, so I expect nothing less for X˛ and Y˛
