Timing had very little to do with why Moments would have been a bad single

Timing is everything. Although none of the boys ballads would do well anyway. Radio doesn't support them for the most part and their type of ballads are typical par for the course.

Don't even try it with Moments. MTT and GBY have the one positive thing about their production. It's polished but I just don't feel them.

Some songs are going to flop no matter when, where, or how they are released.

MTT was just a UK single was it not?

Anyway, JGMAR did well partly because of Nate. It's not just about hooks alone; but Some Nights (album) >>>>

Now that is just a huge reach. MTT doesn't even have the same level of quality as JGMAR, Stay, etc all the songs that were doing well on the charts. I Will Always Love You makes MTT look like the typical juvenile mess it is; so don't even insult Whitney and Dolly with that comparison.

And even if they boys promoted it, one; radio play is sorely needed to make it a smash (longevity plays a role here); their sales are severely front-loaded; and their audience is mostly teen girls. Their appeal has yet to really transition to older crowds. It would be a HIT, yes but not a smash like JGMAR.

I was being facetious when I compared it to IWLY, but I was just trying to get my point cross that MTT was a smash waiting to happen.

But wait, we know 1D are capable of having a hit on radio with longevity. WMYB says hi.

And...? That's the problem. That's their only one song with longevity.

The fact that they don't have any major radio support nowadays means WMYB will be the only known one by the GP (and the fans don't even count since they're not enough to make their hits last very long).

They're perfectly capable of having plenty of hits. Never disputed that. Just look at BSE her top 20 (or was it close to top ten?) on US iTunes. Sold well enough.

Yeah. But in terms of longevity, radio airplay is needed; just look at the biggest artists from last decade like Britney, Xtina, Kelly, Beyonce. The reason they have lasted this long and are so well known is because they had hits on radio that resonates with the GP.

The boys are doing fine right now but it'll have to change down the road. The management just needs to help push their singles to radio and promote them properly.
