I didn't think that was the actual justification.
Em's controversy gets him headlines, but making passionate and relatable music is what turned him into a superstar. It's a wee bit problematic that he would release these lyrics with the knowledge that a lot of people will be supporting and consuming these lyrics and their message.
Nobody can stop Em or anyone else from being homophonic but strong, collective reactions change the way these messages are received. If no one gave a **** in these circumstances, chances are we would still have no rights.
