I think liking anything that TRL promoted in the late '90s and early '00s was deemed "uncool." That goes for Limp Bizkit, Backstreet Boys, *NSync, Britney Spears. Christina did have a slight edge because of her raw vocal ability. But bubblegum pop in general and that terrible rock-rap were not "cool." There's a reason why Eminem came on the scene dissing them and got a ton of praise for it.
If anything, Hilary was one of the harder girls that it was so stan for, she kept taking hits from the critics and some of her ugly jealous peers that were in the industry.
