Are people really surprised that "Roar" is selling so well? It's like the most basic song I've heard in like forever. It appeals right to the slow ass iTunes/digital crowd. It sounds like a 5-6 million seller. But Katy just makes candy for the public. She knows what people want from her. I think her album will open up with decent figures. Something like 350k, which is good for her because her hits will sell her album in the long run.

Pseudo-alternative. Her biggest hit needed a DANCE remix to succeed.

And the articles are right. Lorde is actually doing something Lana has failed to do on a whole outside of sell a ton of records. Her songs are legit hits without remixes.

Lana still sold tons of copies without any "hit" and it's not her fault in your country ya'll only seem to appreciate the bad versions of songs, she had to ruin Summertime Sadness to appeal to you which is just . Videogames was huge here in Europe while Royals isn't even aknlowedged here but ya'll always seem to think the US is the only market that exists

Because if you can't make it in the U.S., then you don't matter. That's why everyone wants to break here. That's why there's always a big question when will Asians break through here, or the fact that "The British Invasion" is such a popular phrase. U.S. is not the end all be all of success, but it is the most important market by far.

Not necessarily, but "Royals" will be remembered and considered more successful than any song Lana has made with just U.S. success. And "Royals" has broken through to other countries as well, and Lorde is still early on in her career. Lana wasn't an instant WW success either. It all takes planning and campaigning for WW success.

I have always thought Capitol has tried to magnify Katy her success (e.g. The unnecessary star on the Walk of Fame) essentially to make her seem bigger than she actually is and be taken seriously by the public. So I wouldn't be surprised if the payola rumor turned out to be true.

just got the dark horse and whitney on air download links via email from apple. i imagine everyone who preordered prism got them in the past couple of hours. thats the only logical explonation of katy's slayage. no label would spend thousands of dollars ww to inflate chart positions. and the fact that the songs havemt plummeted yet kinda debunkns the payola rumor. but im a stan so im biased and katy sux cox for suxxess!!!11!1!1
