If he was going to be a defensive-type Pokemon, then I'd agree with you. But if he's going to be the hyper-offense type Pokemon with barely any bulk, then I wouldn't really care about all the weakness. He's going to be dying in one hit either way.
Of course, this is assuming he's not defensive. If he is, then he's screwed either way

Magnezone is not even that common, and from what we've seen, he seems more like a Swampert kind of starter, which means bulky physical attacker and a Steel type would be amazing for him (or basically any Pokemon for that matter).
Ferrothorn is defensive yet keeps being like Top 5 on the usage tiers.
Now where is the Grass/Dark types like Cacturne and Shiftry?? RIGHT.
Torterra's a beast, you can't not love him, he's the best Grass starter bar Sceptile, lbr.
And Infernape's the best Fire starter besides none.
