Meh.

'Cause that's what she did with Dark Horse, produced by Dr. Luke.

It's a toss-up, they certainly will automatically put their names on anything they produce, but I know they are very involved in the songwriting process. Bonnie talks a lot about how they "pass or fail" ideas that she and Katy have. I would imagine, lyrically, that a couple songs are just Katy, and they just helped with melody/production.

Justin is criticized for for going back to the well over and over and over again when it comes to Timbaland. Though I enjoyed Part 1 of 20/20, I feel like Part 2 is an uninspired mess and I blame Timbaland's dated production for it.
I haven't used Avril since her second album so I try not to comment on her.
I'm gonna buy Katy's album no matter what. I love her, I love her music and she's an artist whose project I'll support because it's her. That said, I would have loved to hear a dark album. She hyped it as such and then when she disappeared, a lot of people forget that she said she was taking a different direction. Don't fault people for not knowing about an obscure interview she did. When they were heavily checking into what the album was going to be, she said it was going to be dark. So that's what got stuck in their heads.
While I enjoy Katy's music, I don't know how I feel about her working so much with Bonnie and Lukas. I mean, from a business standpoint it's a sure thing. They had huge hits before. But I think Lukas tends to be lazy and repetitive and I would hate for Katy to fall victim to Lukas' attention deficit disorder when it comes to music. That's all. As a top tier talent, Katy deserves better.

Thank you, and also thank you for not making me feel stupid. Like some people with a flawed user name.

Ryan, btw, I'm not faulting anyone, I might say **** out of sarcasm but this not jury duty, it's a music forum and ppl shouldn't get riled up and take **** personally. I posted that interview because it's something that Katy had a vision on before starting recording the album and I felt that it should have been posted again. Artist change their minds like a girls changes clothes

She's said a couple times that her "dark" comment was misconstrued, something that she mentioned in passing that was latched on to and people ran with it and made it a bigger comment than she intended. She said that before she even started writing the album. I don't see it as her "hyping" it.
Truthfully, the "obscure interview" is the one that mentions it being dark, every interview since then has involved the interviewer mentioning that comment and her correcting it and explaining what she meant.
As far as Luke getting lazy, you're absolutely right that he has a tendency to do that with some artists, but we've heard Dark Horse already and it's not like anything he's done with Katy before. I think it will be more different than people expect, although still sure-fire hits.

Thank you. And I agree with you, they shouldn't take it personally. I'm glad you posted that video. Maybe people will stop bringing up the "OMG THIS WUZ SAPOOSED TO BE DARKZZZZZZ" comments and accept the fact that Katy decided to go in a different direction.
I'm sure she did what she felt was right. As a fan I trust her to make the best decisions for her career. She wouldn't **** it up over some ********. Thus far, it's worked for her. Having a song go platinum in like 2 weeks, dethroning the unstoppable song of the summer. This era's off to a great start.

It's not all about lyrics, if they do the music or melodies for it, they get credit.

I'm sure most members here that are criticizing her for working with Luke are gonna bop to her songs whether they admit it or not. She's stated plenty of times that she's a pop artist, pop artists deliver music that CATER to radio. You want Indie or mature? There are plenty of artists that you can listen to...there's Lorde, Adele, Norah Jones ect.)
Katy ain't stupid, she knows her niche, she wants to keep cementing herself in pop culture and there's nothing wrong with that. Artists in the late 90's/early 2000's did the same exact thing but we live in an era that fan bases and artists try to top themselves with their ~artistry nowadays which is cool because not everyone has to deliver radio friendly hits, you should become who you want to be and deliver the music that comes from your heart whether is radio friendly or not but is it Katy's fault that she knows how to write catchy hooks by herself or with other co-writers?
There are plenty of other artists, I dare say HUNDREDS that use the same formula yet they can even break the top 50 on the Hot 100... why? Katy's got her fan base and she's found her niche and no one is gonna take that away from her. I'm positive she can write a Lana Del Rey type of ballad and it can and will go #1 yet haters are gonna jump on her saying she caters to RADIO and RADIO only ...there's no winning for her from the haters and it's a FACT.

You know what would be amazing? If we got Katy's very own "Don't Speak" on this record
Lately I envision her singing that song We need another classic pop/alternative anthem like that.
