Just because Britney was a phenomenon, sensation, and a brand with dolls, lunchboxes, appearances on very popular 90s tv shows, etc.

Madonna was putting out hits, but so were many other women (and men) in the 80s. She was never marketed as a teen pop sensation like her "counterparts" Tiffany and Debbie Gibson.

This is pretty fair. They're much different trajectories.

I think it's impressive that Miley's in control of herself through all of this.

Not really. Back then female teen idols would fade as their fanbases grew up and they wouldn't grow up with them. Ever since Britney, female teen idol's try to grow up with their fanbases and try to become more of an adult popstar.

If I wasn't so lazy I would dig up the Google groups forum receipts from 99, so many people were saying Britney would be gone in 2 years max. Their posts gave so much ATRLer tea if ATRL existed back then.
