Why did it have to be Madonna? How come not Elton, Sting, Rod Stewart, Cyndi Lauper or Cher? They've all released music in the recent years, someone is pressed.
It's tough to say. As a relatively longtime fan of hers, I'd love her to keep making music and touring, but honestly a part of me feels she isn't delivering anymore. She's certainly works very hard, much harder than other girls content to make bank off of attaching their names to products they are only tangentially related to, but I feel as if the quality of her work has just gone down since Confessions.
All her "statements" are hackneyed and cynical, her music is forgettable, and her entire brand has just become so uninteresting to me, which is such a far cry from the Madonna who used to surprise and excite us with every offering. Nowadays she just seems content to rely on a very basic level of sex&shock that the other girls have long since strip-mined, and it's just unfortunate that a trailblazer has become a shockjock trend-chaser.
After all this time I've come to expect a lot from Madonna and apart from her very intricate tours (the structure and arrangement more than the actual performances and songs themselves), I worry she's fallen off. This SecretProject mess was just another nail on the coffin.
