Not really. It was fun and well shot and beautiful in places but the message was the same generic, canned-empowerment "be yourself" message, with vague implications of the world being wrong and currupt. As far as message behind goes, this is just as sweet and as just non-revolutionary as a "****ing perfect" or "where is the love"

Not much about this was self empowerment at all. Rarely have I seen a pop star challenge governments and authorities in the name of self expression. Say what you wish, but being so forward about the whole message and going so far as to partner wth Bit******* is a bold move any way you paint it. It's not so much a "be yourself no matter who bullies you" as it is an "express yourself no matter who tells you not to, be that other people, governments, organized religions, or yourself". It's really not the same if you get what I'm trying to say. She's more or less challenging every institution society has created to manage and constrain its members.

But she's not actually - who is she calling out, specifically? Ok, so there's a vauge, ****-the-system cry framing the whole thing (and can we just point out it is a system she is wholly part of) it's still just very vague, very sweeping statements without much genuine weight. And of course it's lathered with a thick layer of "ch, modern times!" and we are expected to believe people are getting less and less tolerant

It was the most generic and cheesy "lets have a revolution!" speech possible. Cliche after cliche after cliche. Steven Klein is so consistently disappointing.

Does someone have to be specific to have a point? She names the institutions at fault and encourages her viewers to stand up against the things they are doing. In my opinion, the important part of the project is rooted in its sweeping and general statements. She's not sending a message to, for example, the allegedly oppressed Syrian people and only them. She's sending her message to everyone who is oppressed and limited in some way. Sure, it lacks the pointed tone and weight of calling out any one, singular entity specifically, but it doesn't mean that in making these statements she's acting in a contrived or dishonest manner, nor does it mean that this "revolution" as she calls it has no more substance to it than a mere pop song written expressly with the intention of making people feel better about themselves. It's not even really in the same territory given its more political edge of "fight oppression, fight for true freedom" as opposed to the general pop song formula of "be yourself, screw bullies, you're awesome".

I mean, it's not that I don't see where you're coming from. I definitely do see that. However, I disagree that this lacks effect simply because it's not specific. That doesn't necessarily mean to me that it's made just to say something and look cool, and therefore lacks substance - I think that's somewhat exemplified in that she stands to make literally no profit from this project and is giving it away via BT at a loss, financially.

Her message is important its just that she's not really the best person to be saying this. You can't fight against the man when you are essentially the man now. I mean I understand what she's saying and I support it but at the same time its somewhat embarrassing, she only noticed the injustices around her two years ago on tour when it had a direct effect on her? Its basically another egocentric project for her. Its still a good message though and like I said the interview she did is the best part because she is really passionate about something for once besides making movies. lol

Seriously can't you all just leave it alone if you don't like it? You (and you know who Im talking about) are clearly not Madonna fans at all. her secret project isn't perfect in my opinion (while it is to others), but her intention and passion is more than obvious.

The interview, the performance she did, all the work she put into it.. even if you don't like the short film itself, you have to admit that the passion shines through and she's genuinely trying to do something more important.

endless arguments about who is better and even posting other clips to "show us" how "it's done" (when you probably only found out about it when another fan posted it a minute ago and haven't even watched it yourself! and just use it to discredit her efforts) has to stop! It's really showing what your intentions are and you people could use Madonna's message in her film more than anyone.

seriously.. If it's so "simple" then how come you didn't get any of it? I see a lot of people in here whining about her use of violence, not even getting that she's ANTI-glorifying it. Some people here are so literal, they need guidelines to understand irony.
