Still, Beyoncé was bigger and more known, much more. Things start to look better for Rihanna after GGGB, because she had her first global hit.

There you have it, she was on Beyoncé's shadow. She started being seen as Rihanna, without any Beyoncé linking, after the makeover on GGGB. I stand by my point, that album was essential for Rihanna's career, she would have faded if they decided to release another album with the same sound as MOTS or AGLM.
