Modern Family is only winning because it seems like the least graphic and dark out of all the comedies. I don't really mind it, though. Enlightenment easily slayed all the nominees but it's not that much of a comedy.

I also think picking a good reel is a big deal in how the voters choose. Not all of the voters who vote there have watched every single show and its entire season. No one really has time for that. An actor could have had an overall great season but if he chooses the wrong reel, the voters will probably vote for someone who had a better reel but not the overall better year.
Claire Danes chose the right reel. Q&A is the best episode of S2 of HL.
