Back in July, 31-year-old pop veteran Britney Spears tweeted that her forthcoming eighth album would be her "most personal album ever". News then started circulating that she was working with William Orbit, the producer responsible for relaunching Madonna's career with the deeply personal Ray Of Light album. This was then followed by tweets from singer-songwriter Sia about a "beautiful and heartbreaking" ballad the pair had recorded. So it was a bit of a surprise to learn that the first single to emerge from the album would be a will.i.am collaboration called Work Bitch (it's original title was rumoured to be the more Miley-friendly, Werk Bitch). Originally due to premiere on US radio later today, the song leaked over the weekend and has now been plonked on YouTube. As with last year's collaboration with will.i.am, Scream & Shout, Work Bitch feels slightly like a cluster of phrases and bits of melody hunting for a song to attach themselves to, although the overall result is much more appealing. Over a thundering electronic riff and a relentless jackhammer beat, Britney lists various things you'll need to work quite hard in order to achieve: "You wanna live fancy, live in a big mansion, party in France? You better work bitch". It's a sweary motivational anthem from an over-zealous life coach basically, with Britney challenging the listener to get the law involved ("go call the po-lice, go call the guv-a-nah"), but aware that they probably won't be able to help ("I am the guv-a-nah"). It's a pretty relentless onslaught that reflects pop's current love for chucking in everything up to and including the kitchen sink, but there's enough of Britney's personality – the myriad vocal tics, the ridiculous middle-eight breakdown bit – to make sure she hasn't been fully obliterated by will.i.am's production sledgehammer.

Bruno is a great performer, he will bring it. I just wish people didn't get so butthurt over it. They don't understand there's music being made that doesn't come from pop divas.

NWTS reviews are more of the same as his other albums. Drake is still a boring artist, but there was some good that came out of NWTS.
