SKY FERREIRA TALKS TO PITCHFORK ABOUT UNRELEASED COLLECTION + NEW SINGLE AND ALBUM
Sky Ferreira release an album full of unreleased songs today and the first person she opened up to talk to about the album was Pitchfork. Ferreira talked about subjects such as her music, her arrest, and few other things that could be considered as shade.
What made you want to release all your unreleased material all of a sudden?
I think it was more for the fans as well as for me too. I had so much unreleased stuff that wasn't mastered and just in demo form. I got tired of people constantly asking about this demo or that one so I decided along with my label to release it. Yeah.
There are some really good demos on there. You didn't say like "I want to save this one for the album" or anything?
A few of those demos will actually be on the album. Some of them were too good to pass by.
Can you tell us which ones will make it onto the upcoming album?
American Dream is on there and Too Many Boys made the cut. A few other ones too but I'll save those to reveal at another time.
Did you get arrested for promo?
No but I'm kind of glad I did since it pretty much got people talking about me so that was definitely cool.
Teen Queen is releasing next week? What is the status of that song? Is it the lead single because you never said anything about it.
I believe as my label put it "It's a promo single". I think if it does well we'll consider it the lead single but it's really to just test the waters.
What's the sound of the song? Is it vintage Sky or something different?
It's a bit more mainstream than anything I've released before but it has those rock influences like You're Not The One did but it's far more catchy.
The big question is are you going to go mainstream? Artists who are indie end up changing entirely when they get a hit song. You could always go the Tegan & Sara route...
I think that's what my label is aiming at. I don't really care though. I guess if I do get popular I'll have to change my musical style up just a little but it won't be like total transformation to full on pop you know. But I'm sure the fans would love that.
One last thing. What will the theme of the album be about?

Example announce's new single, "High Tides"!
Example recently tweeted to announce that High Tides has won the "next single" poll by a large margin. Yesterday he put up a poll for fans to decide between "High Tides f/Alpines" and "Under The Golden Tree f/Daft Punk", and High Tides crushed Under The Golden Tree. High Tides will be sent to Pop/HAC/AC formats on Saturday, and was sent to Rhythmic radio today, due to Forget About Never already flopping there  .

SKY FERREIRA SONGS SENT TO RADIO
Tigerlily Recordings have sent out a few tracks to radio in promotion for Sky Ferreira: The Unreleased Collection, an album collected of Ferreira's unreleased tracks. The tracks were sent to alternative and pop radio for this week only, the tracks following were the ones sent
• Untouchable
• Elevator
• Dynamite State
The songs will be played on Clear Channels at least once a day in promotion for the album which has just cracked the top twenty on iTunes to many's surprise. The album consists of 34 tracks that were remastered and finalized for it's release.

Well I try to keep everything organized and planned. My career has been my love for quite a long time, now I just share my time between the private and my career. My private inspired me some songs of my new album, and some songs inspired me to be a better woman to my fiancé.
So both side keeps me in balance.

Let’s talk about the new single, Somebody Else.
Yes Somebody Else is a new direction for me. And this album is a lot about new things for me. It’s a Pop and Club songs but it is about a girl still in love with her ex. She rather see him happy with someone else than being unhappy together. But she heartbroken, watching him being happy, and thinking about all the things they did together.
When will it be available ?
It’s on radio since this morning but it will be out tomorrow.
So I guess the album is coming out soon ?
Yes. There is no date announced yet, cause The single has just been announced, then we just announced the promotional single for October the first. Which the fans has to chose between 2 songs Come Clean or Sorry.
I heard that ShoTime, It’s the record label where Kelly is signed, has big plans for you.

Well ShoTime succeed to get this big Clear Channel endorsement for the whole album campaign. That mean big premier and events. Like the preview of the Music Video of Somebody Else on Wednesday. It’s a worldwide events, all day the first minute of the music video will be on Times Square, Trafalgar Square, at The Champs Elysée, and many other place, before the real premier on the CW and Vevo next Monday.

Yes, I shot 4 episodes for the show Nashville, and one of the song of my album named Peach will be on it. The song is a fresh Country Ballad, really cute and smooth. And I also did some cameos here and there but I can’t talk about that yet.

The thing is people nowadays are used to hear singers who can’t really sing so when they hear someone who can sing. They are pitch perfect. But no one is as huge as Mariah, Celine, Whitney, Tina were and are.

Sky Ferreira is on the cover of Notion Magazine for the 'Great Blondie Ambition' edition. Ciara is also featured on the magazine, former Tigerlily Recordings artist as she was dropped due to LA Reid threatening suicide if she didn't go back to Epic Records. In Notion, Sky talked her unreleased material, new music, and threw some shade in a ten question interview.

How do you feel on the current state of pop music?
It could use some more diversity. It's improved in diversity since like 2010 and 2011 so I guess it's making progress.
You've expressed that if you were to ever get popular you wouldn't change your style of music. What did you mean by that?
I don't want to pull a 2012 Marina and The Diamonds basically. -smirk-
So you would never change your style for success?
No, my music is a reflection of my life and personality. The whole poppy thing doesn't really fit me. I guess I'm a bit indie-pop but it's quite a contrast to the stuff artists put out now. God, people are going to think I'm coming off like Lorde or something.

So if you had to choose one artist in pop music to be your favorite artist who would it be?

The Unreleased Collection is releasing. Is this sort of the beginning of the process of getting you out there? Because what I've read is your label is sending songs out to radio in promotion of it.
I guess so. I'm pretty excited about it. People are going to be like "She's so mainstream now we hate her" etc but it's really whatever. So I guess you can call it that. In my own perspective it's just broadcasting my music to a bigger audience. There will be no change in the sound of my music. What you hear on the album isn't really pure pop like everyone's acting like it is.
How does it feel to actually have an album out after like fourteen pushbacks and non album tracks released?
It's relieving. I feel like I've carried around a baby for four years and now I finally had it. It's definitely really dope.
