I've been following the chart since Rated R and her urban songs usually has higher airplay but lower sales. Meanwhile her pop songs sell more. A good example is the MD/CKB. MD reached the top 10 in urban but it doesn't even reach the Top 40 in Itunes while CKB reached only top 20 in Pop yet sold more than MD.
Rihanna started as an urban girl. And I can't imagine her being a pop-only artist. I think she loves urban so much (as evident to her past 4 albums). She will never shake urban off.
Also urban audiences bring in album sales while pop audience bring in single sales. That has been the case most of the time. Lots of rapper benefit from this. Her albuns wouldn't cross that 1M mark without her urban fanbase.
