it really isn't. Everything in life is about timing. Success=proper timing esp. in the music industry.
Rihanna is someone who has great timing. The stars were definitely aligned for her and luck is on her side. It's not a bad thing.
Timing can't account for 8 years of success though. Rihanna has a voice that can do every genre. If you listen to GGGB you will hear her rock, pop, raggae, r&b and doing it well. There is no other popstar I know who can do that. I think your theory would work for someone like Whitney Houston or Madonna or Mariah. There are a lot of girls who can belt but no one gives them the time of day. Madonna ofc has no talent and her antics would not work in this day and age.
But what If Britney smashes with her second single, will you praise her and say you were joking when she was flopping?
1st singles are not all, they are just the beginning. Gaga can still smash with her second single and Britney could release a smash and get ha top 10 hit!
