Well, I wouldn't call Hot N Cold dance-pop. It has some synths, but it's a pop rock song overall imo. If anything, I think that Hot N Cold fit the format better actually because it was safe pop rock rather than I Kissed A Girl, which was a little too intense for HAC listeners and I Kissed A Girl didn't even go Top 10 on HAC! Plus, back then people saw Katy as more of a rocker and not a dance diva like Gaga
I do think Katy did make a difference in dance's acceptance on the format though. She had the first dance song ever to go #1 on HAC with California Gurls. There had been songs with synths that gone #1 before but they all had some sort of rock/alternate influence and CG was pure dance pop.
