Hold It Against Me was much more radio-friendly and addictive than Work Bitch. I believe that the material is the reason for the underwhelming performance. Hope the rest of her album doesn't sound like this.

I'm a little late on this one, but lemme reply anyway.
That's a different aspect. It's definitely a less
accessible song than Roar, not arguing with that, and Katy's this mega superstar in the US since TD, so of course she's gonna slay with a safe song made for radio like Roar.
HIAM is more accessible than WB as well, but it doesn't mean the latter is destined to flop. We at least have to give it some more time to settle on radio and with the video to see where it goes. Otherwise, yes, the public won't connect to it seeing it's not our regular Pop song you hear on the radio, but that's okay, she'll bring it with her next single, I'm sure.
