That's really not an excuse. Katy Perry released the day before Gaga and had a monstrous iTunes lead; that's not easy to compete with. Whereas when Britney released with the #1 song being a weeks-old Miley song that has basically already hit #1 on the Hot 100 and was significantly losing its lead. To say that Britney had an advantage isn't an excuse, it's actually a pretty big understatement.
