Ariana was #1 for a few days but almost out of the top ten by the end of the week - in fact, she might have been. I don't really remember. That's why her and Gaga's numbers were about the same. Gaga didn't freefall; the lowest she dipped to was #7.

How am I making excuses? You implied that Gaga had the Kia commercial and VMA performance her first week which is absolutely not true. Check yourself.

And I would hope Britney got closer to #1 when she wasn't competing with a hot new single released 24 hours prior.
