Ariana sold about the same amount as Gaga first week (i think a tad more), though, and didn't have a commercial or opening performances at major awards if we're talking about "steady sales"?

Gaga didn't have a commercial or awards show performance the first week

Ariana was #1 for a few days but almost out of the top ten by the end of the week - in fact, she might have been. I don't really remember. That's why her and Gaga's numbers were about the same. Gaga didn't freefall; the lowest she dipped to was #7.
